Our intent

Unum is a civic literacy app. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

Information we collect

We collect push notification tokens solely to deliver bill and official update notifications you opt into. These tokens are stored on our secure server and are never sold or shared with third parties.

During onboarding, you may optionally provide a zip code to identify your congressional district. This zip code is stored on your device and on our secure server solely to deliver relevant notifications.

If you type a street address on the congressional map, the text you type is sent from your device to Mapbox to suggest matching addresses, and the address you search is sent to the U.S. Census Bureau Geocoder to find its congressional district. Mapbox also uses your device's IP address to show nearby addresses first. We do not store the addresses you type or search, on your device or on our server.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. We do not sell your data.

Data storage

Your lists, followed bills, and app preferences are stored locally on your device. Your zip code and notification preferences are stored on our secure server solely to deliver relevant notifications.

Third-party services

Unum relies on the following services. When the app loads content from them, they receive standard technical information such as your device's IP address, as with any website or app that loads content online.

• Push notifications: Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) delivers push notifications, governed by Google's Privacy Policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
• Legislative data: provided by the Congress.gov API from the Library of Congress. Member photos are loaded from the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress.
• Zip code lookup: zip codes are matched to congressional districts using U.S. Census Bureau data stored on our server.
• Congressional map: district boundaries and street address lookup are provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. Address suggestions are provided by Mapbox, governed by its privacy policy at mapbox.com/legal/privacy. Map images are loaded from the OpenStreetMap Foundation's servers, governed by its privacy policy at osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy. The map is displayed with the open-source Leaflet library, loaded from the unpkg content delivery network. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License.

Children's privacy

Unum is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of any changes.
